As part of SAGSE Central America & Caribbean 2026, The Face Recognition Company discussed the current role of facial recognition within the gaming and hospitality industries, particularly in areas related to fraud prevention, security, and the management of self-excluded individuals.

The company also shared its perspective on the technological challenges currently facing the sector, as well as the growth potential it sees for these types of solutions across Latin America.

How does facial recognition impact gaming and hospitality?

There are two very important reasons to use facial recognition in these sectors. Firstly, to identify known cheats/frauds and those that have been violent or abusive to staff. Many regions also have national authorities to support ‘self-excluder’ registration, and in many cases there are strict obligations on casinos (all gambling sites) to prevent self-excluders from playing. This is actually the most significant reason why most of our casino clients use our FR solution.

What challenges exist in prevention and security?

The major challenge that exists is that with the above two use cases, there are simply too many people for the casino or gaming site staff to remember. Our highly accurate and robust FR system can do this easily and quickly, even with over a million people on the ‘watch list’ database it only takes a fraction of a second to identify and raise an alert to site staff, who can then take appropriate action.

How do you see technological adoption in LATAM?

We see great potential for adoption in LATAM. Our first experience was joining ALASCA in 2024. We now have our first deployment running live in Panama. We are confident that we, along with our local partners, can support casinos and other gaming sites in the LATAM region to adopt our solution, in the same way that we are now the leading provider of FR solutions into casinos in our home UK market.
